Pre-treatment cautions:

  • If you take blood thinner, such as Aspirin, Warfarin (Coumadin) or Clopidogrel (Plavix), be sure to talk to your doctor before the procedure.
  • You may need to stop taking certain medicine a week before the procedure.

Aftercare advices:

  • After having a skin tag removed, the area should be cleaned with antibacterial soap and water two times a day unless otherwise advised. Don’t use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol, which can slow healing.
  • Apply an antibiotic ointment (Polysporin) to your wound after cleaning.
  • Take over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen, as needed. Discomfort following mole removal is typically mild and highly tolerable.
  • Avoid scratching or rubbing your wound during recovery. As your wound heals, it may itch. Keeping the area moist with a thin layer of petroleum jelly (Vaseline) will help relieve the itching.
  • If clothing irritates the site where a skin lesion has been removed, cover it with a bandage to prevent rubbing and bleeding.
